Ontario Food Collaborative

On Wednesday, February 19th participants heard how Clancy Harrison transformed surplus food into an opportunity that challenges the status quo. Taking this endeavour into her own hands to establish meaningful collaboration, Clancy has distributed over four million meals in her community, improving the stigma around access to healthy foods.

What participants had to say about Clancy’s presentation:

💬 “So impactful.”

💬 “Learned a lot about stigmas & bias.”

💬 “Thank you, Clancy, for a very eye-opening presentation on food insecurity. I really appreciated your thoughts on micro-barriers. Coupled with transportation is the location of food banks. Many of them, especially the largest ones in municipalities, are located in industrial areas where accessibility is jeopardized by the hours of operation of those transit routes.”

💬 “Thank you, Clancy, for this interesting presentation to learn about food security from a different perspective. We don’t know what we don’t know. It is great to know something I didn’t know today. I can relate to the story of relying on public transit to go to the grocery store and trying to pack as much food as I could in my backpack.”

💬 “I love the direct connection to farmers (aside from my being a farmer bias). These days, the cost to buy direct is the same or less than corporate grocery stores and creates so much more awareness of seasonal items and where your food comes from. Maybe even inspires people to grow some of their own food.”
